A team of British doctors from the British Organization Healing Little Heart were in our country at the invitation of the Gianni Gaspar Martins Foundation from March 8 to 15 for another session of heart surgeries for children from needy families.
The Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento hospital was the scene of the surgeries. In the aforementioned period, 12 cardiac surgeries were performed. According to Dr. Glória Mawete, an Angolan doctor, responsible for the team, this mission of the English doctors at the hospital was marked by great professionalism, collaborative spirit and dedication to the care of children with heart disease. The positive impact of the partnership stands out, as it enabled medium-complexity surgical interventions to be carried out, in addition to promoting the training of the local team, both medical and nursing. The exchange of experiences strengthened the multidisciplinary approach and reinforced the importance of international collaborations for the sustainable development of pediatric cardiology care in our context.
The GGMF, a non-profit institution, aims to support initiatives of this kind with the aim of resolving a certain level of difficulties existing within needy Angolan families.
