In the last week of June, the month dedicated to children, the Gianni Gaspar Martins Foundation, together with the British NGO Healing Little Hearts and the administration of the Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Hospital, organized another heart surgery campaign for children from underprivileged families.
The joint initiative aimed to operate on twelve children with various problems, out of hundreds waiting on the waiting list. One of the cardiologists assigned to the above-mentioned hospital, Dr. Glória Costa Mawete, said that for technical reasons it wasn’t possible to reach the recommended number, with only eight surgeries being carried out, but that the intention is to continue with the campaign whenever there is support from organizations or individuals.
The medical team, which was in the country for a week, was made up of Portuguese, Cubans, Austrians, Indians and English people.
“It’s a philanthropic act for us and it brings us an immeasurable and unspeakable set of values to be part of initiatives like these. Whenever possible, GGMF will go hand in hand with the heart, especially when it comes to little children,” said GGMF’s General Coordinator, Loyd Ana.
Parents and guardians of the children who benefited expressed their delight, thanking the medical team and the organization for this commendable achievement.
